Here is an example that might help answer that question. In the movies, films can sometimes be filmed over months and even years of time. During this production time, hundreds of hours of footage is shot. This is called "raw" footage. The film is then edited, the unnecessary footage is removed and the story is told as simply as possible. Home video is similar. Your camcorder tapes are like "raw footage" and can be edited down to tell the story. Memories are enjoyed better when they are presented in sequence, with unwanted footage removed and perhaps cut down into a 'short-n-sweet' highlight video.
